Fitting the Perfect Door

So, you have chosen the doors you would like in your home but not sure what size to order?

If you have an existing door you are looking to upgrade then you can take measurements for your new door straight from that. You need to record the width, height and thickness of the door you currently have. Check the availability of sizes from the range that you have chosen and select the closest to your existing measurements. Remember to round up, not down in size. When trimming a door to fit, any reduction must be done evenly from each edge of the door, e.g. To trim your door by 10mm, remove 5mm from each side. When trimming, a total of 6mm can be removed from each side, an overall reduction of 12mm in both width and height. This excludes Fire Doors, Bi-Fold and rebated door pairs)

If you do not have a door in your existing frame, measure the height and width of the inside of the frame at two points vertically (left and right) and horizontally (top, middle and bottom). Use the largest of these sizes and round up to select the correct door size you will require.

Doors in older homes may not be a standard size and you may need to trim your new door to fit or you may need to have one specially made. Depending on the door, there are limits to how much can be trimmed from the edge, make sure you know the limits on the door you have chosen so that you do not end up weakening the structure of the door.
